Securing your Tutanota account with two-factor authentication (2FA) is one of the best ways to prevent unauthorized access. This simple guide shows you how to set up 2FA on Tutanota using a secure Authenticator App.
Why Use 2FA on Tutanota?
Tutanota is designed for privacy, but adding 2FA makes it even stronger. Even if someone knows your password, they won’t be able to log in without a unique, time-based code generated by your Authenticator App.
Step-by-Step: Set Up 2FA on Tutanota
1. Sign in to your Tutanota account
Go to tutanota.com and log in to your account.
2. Go to Settings
Click on Settings (gear icon) in the bottom left corner of the screen.

3. Navigate to “Login” under Settings
In the left menu, click Login under Settings.
4. Select “Add second factor”
You’ll see the two-factor authentication section. Click Add second factor.
5. Choose “Authenticator App”
Select Authenticator App as the method. Tutanota will now display a QR code.

6. Open Your Authenticator App
Open your Authenticator App and tap the + button to add a new account.
7. Scan the QR Code
Scan the QR code displayed on Tutanota.

8. Enter the 6-digit Code
Your app will now generate a 6-digit OTP code. Enter it in Tutanota to complete the setup.

✅ Done! You’ve now added 2FA to your Tutanota account for stronger login protection.
Final Tips
Always back up your recovery codes when setting up 2FA.
For security reasons, don’t use SMS for two-factor authentication—use an app.
You can remove or reset 2FA later in the same settings menu.
